Quarantine Comfort

I have heard people say that stress can cause one to experience bouts of baking...
This was kind of one of those times and a first for myself.
Since the Corona Quarantine I've been cooking so many more meals and one night I decided I was going to give myself a break and bake the blues away.
Luckily My Love and I have had plenty of things to keep us busy so we've been very blessed through out the whole process.

I’ve made cake a couple of times and always from a box but after watching many seasons of BBC/Netflix The Great British Bake Off I thought, well I’ve got the time, let's try from scratch.
After checking out a few recipes I found the one I wanted to attempt and boy am I glad that I did!!!
Since the recipe is not my own I'll provide the exact recipe I followed.

It’s the Hershey's chocolate double layer cake and if you love chocolate this is the cake for you!
Since I don’t bake too often I didn’t have two round baking pans so I decided to do one round and one square. I’ve since made sure I have multiple pans just for this recipe!
If you try out the recipe let me know in the comments what you thought!

I used organic cane sugar in place of granulated sugar, organic eggs and butter, I used white lily flour(my mom insists it's the best) and organic non GMO raw cane powdered sugar.
I also didn't have any buttermilk so I used the milk and vinegar trick that the recipe recommended.

This beautiful dress is available from chicwish and I will provide an affiliate link if you would like to shop it.

Battle Hymn

My Grandpa John was in the NAVY and then later joined the U.S. AIR FORCE.
My Papa Wallace after he was in service but it was still a very handsome picture so I included it!
My Ma Allie(where I get my curly hair from), wife of Wallace and the one who cooked the soup you will see in a short while.
Papa in uniform when he first entered the ARMY.
Dad's baby nightlight it's 57 years old and I had to superglue it for Ma today while I was visiting.
Yes, it still works!
Ma making her famous vegetable and beef soup.

Papa watching westerns while he takes a break.
My delicious lunch made with love by ma.
It wouldn't be complete without Kool-Aid in a jar and premium saltine crackers.
My traveling companions on our way home from Ma's and Pa's house.
Today was Veteran's day and I was able to spend part of it with a Veteran and his wife.
I believe the spouses of Veterans should be remembered and appreciated today as well.
For all of the hardship that is keeping up the home front while your loved ones are away and fighting.
I couldn't find a picture of my Grandma Chay to put with the others but Grandma if you're reading this I didn't forget you!
I hope we all can remember what our ancestors and fellow countrymen have done for our freedom as well as the freedom of others, not just today but everyday.
When we stand together for truth and righteousness we will not fall.
However, if we become greedy and a wicked people we are going against the peace that so much blood was lost for and isn't that a sad fact in the first place?
Live your life for yourself but live it with respect for those who came before you and the ones who will come after you.
These are just some of the things I think about.

God bless our veterans and God bless our military.

Happy Veteran's Day everyone!

Aw, shucks! For me?!

 Corn, it's what's for dinner!

I was the 1999 Jr. Corn shucking champion...
not really but I bet if I had competed the title would have been mine!

Here's a weird fact about me, I used to only eat corn if it was on the cob!
Preferably right out of my grandfather's corn patch.
I turned my nose up at any corn that came in a can, not because I was a snob,
I just didn't like the taste!
If you have never had fresh corn I HIGHLY recommend it!
You can taste the freshness and shucking it is half of the fun!
Not to mention how pretty the husks are!

And maybe I just always loved Pocahontas to the point of only eating corn the way she gathered it in the Disney movie!
I know, it's ridiculous but I think I thought I was every Disney princess at one point or another!
Except maybe.... Nope, every single one of them!

Either way it's still my favorite way to eat corn and I've matured, I can eat corn from a can now
...sometimes! ;)

Sorry if you read this and thought "why is she talking about corn?"!
I just think it's pretty and delicious!
In a round about way it was an Outfit of the day since you got to see my outfit I wore shopping!
I bought a new skirt today so I'll do a post about it as soon as I wear it!
It's pretty fierce!
